AE THESIS

CPEP PURPOSE

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.

Senior thesis

This website is designed to showcase Mohamed Mohamed's Architectural Engineering senior thesis project. The idea behind the senior thesis project is for students to apply the knowledge they have learned over the course of 5 years to a real life project. By doing so, Penn State's Architectural Engineering students are already one step ahead of all other graduating seniors as they have had the chance to work with a real life project and come up with an innovative design. In this website, you can follow Mohamed's progress towards designing an innovative sustainable mechanical system for one of Penn State's new residence halls, Chace Hall.

CHACE HALL

Chace Hall is one of the newest residence halls at Penn State's University Park campus. Opening in August of 2013 as a part of the South Halls renovation project, this unique new residence hall provided 216 new beds to Penn State students. The building achieved LEED Certification due to the different measures of sustainbility the Clark Nexsen and Barton Malow design and construction teams have undertaken. My thesis project focuses on redesigning Chace Hall's mechanical system, using different systems that I believe would have been cheaper to build, and more sustainable and cost efficient during its operation.
